New Lenox trustees Tuesday night turned over 10 acres of open space at the Schoolhouse Manor subdivision to the New Lenox Park District.

Mayor John Nowakowski said board concerns that delayed the action last week had been cleared up. “It looks like at least 97 percent of the ducks are in order,” the mayor said.

The park board is presenting its plans for the 6-acre wetland area to state officials next week in hopes of obtaining a grant.

Park commissioners are seeking a $196,000 grant to finance the creation of a wetland nature preserve at Schoolhouse Manor.

The 4-acre park site will be used as a neighborhood park.

Village acceptance of the Schoolhouse Manor land donation was delayed last week because the required fencing had not yet been installed. The fencing is now up and the developer is expected to install a hedgerow to screen the fencing as well.
