Demon digits? The PACE bus system’s Burr Ridge/Hinsdale Feeder bumped into some problems when commuters objected to the route number: 666, a trio of figures that some see as satanic or antichrist.

The bus travels weekdays during rush hours between 79th and Garfield Streets in Burr Ridge and Hinsdale’s Metra station.

“A handful of passengers were uncomfortable with the number and refused to board the bus,” said Blaine Krage, spokesman for PACE. “We’d had scattered complaints over the past year or two, so we decided to accommodate those who were unhappy by changing the number.”

On Aug. 25, bus No. 666 officially became bus No. 668.

The changeover wasn’t a problem, according to Krage, who said, “We’ve got plenty of numbers.”

Unlike the telephone company.
