The possibility of using Cherry Hill School for New Lenox Park District programs is appealing but depends on a number of other factors, park commissioners say.
“There are so many if-ifs,” Commissioner Phil Landry said earlier this month.
The foremost concern is not to interfere with construction plans for a new kindergarten center at the Cherry Hill site, he said.
The New Lenox Elementary District 122 board had planned to tear down the building at the end of the 1997-98 school year and replace it with a larger school.

School officials said remodeling and drainage requirements make it more economical for them to raze the old building and put up a new one.
But some say the building may still be useful.
However, keeping the existing building may force a redrawing of the construction plans.
The Park District would not want to take the building “if it’s going to cause (the school district) problems,” Landry said.
Other factors to be considered include the cost of remodeling the building. Another issue is whether the Village Board wants to use the school building as well.
