A Bolingbrook man who was legally drunk when he plowed into a car stopped at a Tri-State Tollway tollbooth on Memorial Day weekend, killing a Michigan teenager, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Peter Zeiher, 41, had pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and was sentenced Tuesday by Lake County Judge Henry Tonigan.
Authorities said Zeiher was legally drunk and driving about 50 or 60 m.p.h. when his Isuzu Rodeo hit a 1994 Mercury Tracer at the Deerfield toll plaza about 3 a.m. May 24.
Killed was Jeremy St. Cyr, 18, of Troy, Mich. Five other teenagers inside the Tracer were injured.
Zeiher has two previous arrests for drunken driving, said Lake County Assistant State’s Atty. Randie Bruno. Zeiher was placed under supervision after one of those arrests, and he had the other arrest reduced to a reckless driving charge, Bruno said.
