Two suspected gang members have been indicted in the Aug. 26 murder of an 18-year-old man on a Waukegan street.
Justin Gordon, 20, and Nelson Munoz, 16, both of Waukegan, have each been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of Mario Lara.
Authorities said Lara was sitting in a car with his girlfriend in the 300 block of South Utica Street when a gunman shot him several times. Lara, of the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue in Waukegan, died at St. Therese Medical Center.
Lake County Assistant State’s Atty. Steve Scheller said Gordon and Munoz were at a local park when Lara drove by and they identified him as a rival gang member. Munoz allegedly handed Gordon a semiautomatic pistol and Gordon allegedly chased the car and shot Lara, Scheller said.
Police said Gordon was identified by witnesses and arrested shortly afterward. Munoz wasn’t arrested until more than a week later..Both men are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
