Conant 17, Buffalo Grove 10: Sparked by the play of Russ Michna (100 passing yards, 49 rushing), the Cougars (1-2) scored 14 points in the final 8 minutes to win the Mid-Suburban crossover. Yarmel Rush (2 TDs) scored the game-winner on a 4-yard run with 33 seconds left.
Libertyville 17, Lake Forest 14: The Wildcats (2-1, 1-0), down 14-3 midway through the fourth quarter, scored 14 unanswered points to escape with the North Suburban victory. Chris Pfiffner ran for two touchdowns, including a 21-yarder for the game-winner. Brian Hamlett had catches of 28 and 22 yards to set up the winning score.
Marmion 50, St. Edward 9: Marmion (3-0, 1-0) routed St. Edward (1-2, 0-1) in the Suburban Catholic opener for both teams. Tom Koutsos rushed for 159 yards and three TDs and also scored on a 65-yard kickoff return. QB Kyle Saltijeral added a 3-yard scoring run and a 6-yard touchdown pass to Joe Maye.
Montini 34, Immaculate Conception 6: Pat McGady threw three touchdown passes as he threw for 197 yards for the Broncos (3-0, 1-0 Suburban Catholic). Chris Pestel caught two passes, both for touchdowns.
St. Francis 18, Driscoll 17 (OT): Matt Rotta’s two-point conversion run in overtime was the difference as St. Francis (3-0, 1-0) opened its Suburban Catholic schedule with a victory. Jim Watson, who completed nine of 14 passes for 138 yards, hit Pat O’Donnell for the Spartans’ overtime touchdown. With the loss, Driscoll, a 3A quarterfinalist last year, dropped to 0-3, 0-1.
