Two contracts approved by the Mokena Village Board reflect an emphasis on planning for business growth and government service.

On the business side, trustees Monday hired a consultant to study ways to enhance Mokena’s traditional business district at Front Street and Wolf Road.

Business Districts Inc. will analyze and evaluate the downtown commercial area, home of many small businesses. Village officials have budgeted $12,000 for the study.

Harry D’Ercole, chairman of the Mokena Chamber of Commerce Downtown Merchants Committee, came to the Village Board last year with a proposal for a study to help merchants work together to enhance the commercial area.

Also approved was a $4,475 contract with Productivity Techniques Inc. for a series of training sessions for village employees focusing on customer service, teamwork and organizational improvement.
