Petitions signed by almost 500 people supporting the original plan for a new Cherry Hill School Kindergarten Center were presented to the New Lenox Village Board Tuesday night.

Bob and Sue Hoaglund, co-chairs of Citizens Acting for Responsible Education, said the school board’s plan for a new building takes into account cost-effectiveness and the safety of the children.

The original plan of New Lenox Elementary School District 122 called for enlarging Cherry Hill School to serve as a district kindergarten center.

But costly renovation and drainage requirements convinced the school board that tearing down the existing school at 2800 E. Washington St. and building a new one was a more economical alternative.
