An 18-year-old Carpentersville man was charged Monday night in connection with an apparent gang-related shooting Sunday night that shattered the left leg of a 20-year-old man, police said.
Mario Saavedra Jr., whose local address was withheld, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm, said Carpentersville Police Sgt. Richard Fetzer. Saavedra was being held on a $100,000 bond.
A 15-year-old was ordered held in the custody of his parents in connection with the incident, Fetzer said, and a third suspect was being sought.
Police said the incident occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday, when the victim was standing in the 100 block of Madeira Circle and as many as five shots were fired from a black Chevrolet pickup parked two houses away. The victim, whose name police asked not be divulged, was seriously wounded in the left thigh, police said.
Police said they tracked down the truck, which they allege was driven by Saavedra, later Sunday and eventually recovered a 9 mm handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
