Put on the polyester: Highland Park nightclub owner Joe Bortz has a groovy answer to Baby Boomers’ cries of longing for the good old days.
Bortz’s BEG Inc. Enterprises is opening Groovy, a nightclub on Dundee Road in Palatine where customers will be able to toast the 1970s in a “Brady Bunch” look-alike living room or disco the night away. The target for opening is the last week of September.
“I realized that a lot of older people want a return to those memories. But young people who have been introduced to things from that era also find them fun and humorous,” Bortz said.
Memory joggers include the “Laugh-In Wall,” the television show’s zany window-closer; a side slice of a VW bus; polyester-clothed mannequins and shag carpeting.

“Everything’s groovy. It will be a time warp,” he said. “You go there with a funky attitude. The city usually gets the cutting-edge places. This time it will be here in the suburbs.”
