The formal announcement will come later, but state Rep. Peter Roskam said Thursday evening that he is ready to run for the 13th Congressional District seat being vacated next year by U.S. Rep. Harris Fawell.

“Roskam–U.S. Congress” signs and T-shirts were in evidence Thursday night at the DuPage Republicans’ 43rd annual golf outing at St. Andrew’s Golf Club in West Chicago. Roskam (R-Wheaton) does not now live in the district but has said he would move into it .

Roskam, 35, had said only last week that he would not run for the seat if state Sen. Edward Petka (R-Plainfield) intended to make the race. Another candidate considered likely to run for the seat is state Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale).

Other signs at the golf outing were specific on the name of the candidate but not on the targeted office. For example, signs for DuPage County Board Chairman Gayle Franzen, who is expected to announce for secretary of state, simply said, “Franzen ’98.”
