A new boundary agreement between New Lenox and Joliet recently got its first test when New Lenox officials declined to comment on a proposed concrete plant at Cherry Hill Road and U.S. Highway 52.

According to the agreement reached by the towns earlier this year, the unincorporated area where Tom Davidson wants to build the plant lies within Joliet’s sphere of influence even though it is closer to the New Lenox border.

The City of Joliet has not objected to Davidson’s plan, which he said uses new technology for noise and dust control and recycling, nor has the Will County Forest Preserve District, which owns neighboring property.

New Lenox officials said they want to reserve their opinions for their side of the agreed-upon borders. The final ruling on whether to allow the cement plant rests with the Will County Board.
