A teachers’ contract ratified by the Mokena Elementary District 159 School Board Tuesday will raise salaries by slightly more than 11 percent over the life of the 3-year pact.

Mokena Teachers Association members ratified the agreement last week by a 2-to-1 ratio, Supt. Roger Reardon said.

School Board President Bruce Ebert and board members Pam Schonwise, Ken Raiser, Rick Rot, Jim Vanderlaan and David Brynda voted unanimously to accept the contract. Board member Renee Mirkov was not present at the special meeting called to vote on the contract.

The agreement, which extends through the 1999-2000 school year, will raise teachers’ pay 4.59 percent for the 1997-98 school year, followed by increases of 3.42 percent in 1998-99 and 3.42 percent in the final year.

District 159 employs 102 teachers at Mokena Elementary School and Mokena Junior High School.
