Non-profit community groups will begin paying a nominal fee to use the Lions Community Center under a policy approved earlier this month by the New Lenox Park Board.
The non-profit groups that make up 90 percent of the building users will be assessed fees of $5 or $10 to cover custodial and maintenance costs, Park District Supt. Greg Lewis said.
Fees for some Park District programs are also going up slightly, Lewis said.
The Park District’s operating costs are going up and “that money has got to come from some place,” Lewis said.
Almost 300 people have registered for the district’s fall programs since resident registration began Aug. 9, he said.
In other business, the Park Board is moving toward setting up a volunteer foundation to raise funds. Park Director Bill McCollum said the board’s attorney, Cass Wennlund, is reviewing bylaws for a foundation.
