Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Well, actually, not yet.

But among the skyward items in the runup to the 1997 Chicago Air & Water Show will be lots of big pink bubble gum bubbles, all part of what is billed as “The Year’s Biggest Blowout!”, Favorite Brands’ sonic boom bubble gum contest.

It happens from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the North Avenue Beach House. It is, of course, for kids. There are two categories, 12 and under and 13 years and up. Audience members will help cheer on the winners. It will all play out as the air show participants are rehearsing.

Contests will be held for loudest burst bubble (obviously for sonic boomers), most bubbles blown in a minute and so on.

The big prize will go to the character who displays the most exemplary bubble gum-blowing style and form. That person will be named “Sonic Boom Champ” and will receive not only the one-year supply of Sonic Boom Bubble Gum, but also a boom box.

Lesser winners will get the one-year supply.
