Nine weeks after 3 feet of raw sewage flooded Ray and Lisa Morrow’s home, everyone seems to agree it needs to be cleaned. But disagreement continues on who is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the floors and walls of the home on Steger’s southwest side.

The couple made their case public during Monday’s Village Board meeting, calling on village officials to pay cleanup costs estimated at either $12,000 or $20,000.

Recalling the June 16 inundation of sewage, Lisa Morrow told trustees, “Monday morning we woke up and everything was gone.”

The house, declared uninhabitable, has remained unoccupied while the Morrows and their three children stay with friends and relatives.

The couple attributes the massive backup to the home’s location on the sewer line and allege the village failed to respond immediately to their calls.
