A subdivision developer won’t have to dig up plastic sewer pipe and replace it with concrete, but he will have to turn over the money he might have saved.
The Village Board voted 3-2 last week to rescind an order requiring the developers of Bluestone Bay to replace the pipes already installed and to require a payment of the $13,000 price difference between plastic and concrete.
According to developer Simon Beemsterboer, contractors thought they had permission to install plastic rather than the concrete called for in the village code, but the question never came before the Village Board, the only people with authority to approve the change in materials.
He said replacement would cost an enormous amount of money and delay building progress.
Trustees Tom Weigel and Patrick Flynn and Mayor John Nowakowski voted to allow the plastic pipes to stay in and to exact a $13,000 payment from the developer.
Weigel said he would rather see it left in than “tear up the subdivision.”
Trustees Annette Bowden and Dave Smith opposed the change.
