About $47,700 in federal grant funds would be released to Public Action to Deliver Shelter in Wheaton under a recommendation approved Monday by a DuPage County Board committee.

Members of the Board’s Development Committee agreed that PADS had complied with conditions attached to the grant in May. The matter is expected to go before the full board next week.

Some Wheaton officials had asked that the county, as a condition of the grant, require PADS to conduct criminal background investigations of the homeless people who use its services or check for outstanding arrest warrants. The county rejected those requests, but encouraged PADS to develop with Wheaton a written plan for responding to complaints and problems.

The conditions imposed by the county were intended to cure the perception among some residents that PADS had no written plan to minimize the impact it has on the community.
