Tinsley Ellis
Fire It Up (Alligator) (star) (star) (star)
Atlanta blues-rock guitarist Tinsley Ellis is no stranger to Chicago stages, and fans of his incendiary live performances will find plenty to like on “Fire It Up.” More so than on his previous five releases, Ellis bridges the gap between stage and studio, with a dozen tracks split between quality originals and inspired cover material. Highlights include the Ellis originals “Break My Rule” and “Change Your Mind,” as well as a surprisingly funky version of Kenny Rogers & the First Edition’s “Just Dropped In.”
