Aldermen discussed the city’s first zoning ordinance revision since 1960 during a recent Committee of the Whole meeting.
The ordinance will be examined further during another meeting on Aug. 25, where it could be approved on first reading.
Ald. Wayne Elstner heatedly asked city staff members to prohibit open storage on certain industrial sites adjacent to residential lots. Des Plaines community development director Mike D’Onofrio said that issue would be re-examined by staff members before another Committee of the Whole meeting set for Aug. 25. Elstner also promised to raise other concerns during that session but did not describe his concerns during the Monday night meeting.
If approved, the 145-page document would grant the city community development director the power to deny or grant minor zoning variations without City Council approval.
