Village officials say the proposed Interstate Highway 355 extension will spur economic development.
Other area towns, such as Lemont, which passed a similar resolution last month, also see the tollway as an economic boon.
The plan to link the two suburban regions is currently stalled in court, where opponents filed suit charging the Interstate 355 extension was unneeded and environmentally harmful.
Mayor John Nowakowski noted that the Village Board has consistently supported the link between I-55 and I-80. The board passed two resolutions in favor of the project in 1984, he said.
New Lenox officials did agree with opponents of a further proposed extension that would link Interstate Highways 57 and 80. Those possible routes have a disproportionate impact on the New Lenox area, trustees said in a resolution passed last month.
