Residents cleaning up damage created by a microburst that hit Romeoville last Monday should watch out for scams, village officials said.

Any tree removal service claiming to be under contract to the village is suspect, according to Village Manager James Smithberg, who said the village has awarded no such contract.

Mayor Fred Dewald urged residents hiring contractors for home repairs to make sure they hire a firm that is bonded and licensed in the village.

Dewald and village trustees praised the efforts of public works employees and Romeoville Emergency Management Agency volunteers in cleaning up after severe storms and high winds Sunday and Monday.

Smithberg said pickups for tree limbs downed by the storms will continue this week.

REMA Coordinator Mike Littrell said the town was hit by a stationary microburst with winds of 71 miles an hour.
