Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Now that your garden is growing well and looking fine, you may want to turn your attention to furnishings for your outdoor living space.

Salvage One can help. The warehouse-style emporium for architectural artifacts just received a new shipment of unique garden items from Europe that will add Old World country charm to your outdoor life. Among the offerings are tables, benches, urns, fountains, birdbaths, lanterns and gargoyles.

Although the bulk of inventory still comes from this country, a growing amount is found by the company’s buyers on their trips abroad, primarily to Western Europe, says Salvage One general manager and partner Beau Kimball.

Recent finds include 50-year-old painted wood benches from Romania and Hungary in fresh sea-foam green and robin’s-egg blue hues, $300 to $900, depending on size and condition; 14-foot-wide English driveway gates with an equestrian motif, $3,000; an 1810 hand-wrought gate from a West Yorkshire English home, $3,500; a huge 14-foot-tall, 8-foot-wide gate of red sandstone blocks from a Scottish major general’s home, $8,000; a cast-iron English fountain that’s 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide with a large bowl of acanthus leaves, $6,500; and English terra-cotta urns, $1,800 each.

There also are 2 1/2- to 3-foot-tall Irish marble or sandstone birdbaths, $350 to $450. Salvage One also will create custom furnishings from items on hand, such as a trellis for ivy recycled from a fire screen. Because people have finished furnishing their interiors, they’re now concentrating on their outdoor spaces, Kimball says. And the more adventuresome souls are bringing these pieces indoors, he adds.
