Community spirit: At the ripe old age of 3 1/2 months, Cassandra Nagle of Frankfort is already a winner.
It was easy. All she had to do was snuggle contentedly inside a stroller converted into a replica of the village’s famous 19th Century granary while her mom and dad, Barbara and Michael, wheeled her along for a recent children’s parade at Indian Boundary Park.
The parade drew about 100 kids on decorated bicycles and in strollers and wagons. It was part Frankfort’s celebration of the grand opening of the Old Plank Road Trail, a paved nature trail for cyclists, walkers, runners and in-line skaters that extends from Park Forest through Frankfort to the Hickory Creek Junction Forest Preserve in unincorporated Will County.
“We kind of wanted to christen the trail,” said Frankfort Trustee Rosalie Plechaty.
The Nagle family’s trophy-winning stroller conversion was inspired by the towering landmark and its American flag. “You can see the flag from anywhere in town,” Barbara Nagle said.
