Long left-turn backups at York Road and 22nd Street should be alleviated by a roadway expansion and reconstruction project scheduled to begin this month. But motorists can expect traffic delays for more than a year, according to Oak Brook Village Manager Steve Veitch.

The reconfiguration and expansion, scheduled for completion in October 1998, will involve all four approaches to the intersection for hundreds of feet in each direction, Veitch said. Construction will stretch from Clearwater Drive east to Windsor Drive and from Dover Drive north to the East-West Tollway connecting spur, where a traffic signal will be installed.

When the project is completed, Veitch said, there will be three through lanes in each direction on 22nd Street instead of two. York Road will continue to have two through lanes in each direction, but there will be double rather than single left-turn lanes at all approaches.
