Monday to a full-scale court battle over construction of a proposed wellness center near Lyman Woods Forest Preserve.
Last month the Downers Grove Park District Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to sue the hospital to block construction of the $14 million center, which environmentalists contend would cause extensive ecological damage to Lyman Woods and a buffer zone.
At a court hearing Monday, DuPage Judge Bonnie Wheaton denied the hospital’s motion to dismiss the Park District’s complaint.
Hospital attorneys said that the hospital had followed proper legal procedures to develop the 8 acres it owns adjacent to the 135-acre preserve.
A status hearing has been set for Wednesday.
