Already on the map for the Huntley Factory Shops, a giant outlet mall, the town is on the verge of a residential boom.
The newest development is Southwind, a Cambridge Homes subdivision planned for 750 single-family homes. A 200-acre farm on the east side of Illlinois Highway 47 at Reed Road will be the site of homes in two series.
The Meadow homes are priced from $149,990 to $175,990, while the Prairie series are from $164,990 to $201,990. Four decorated models can be viewed.
The three- to five-bedroom homes include basements and two-car garages. As part of the subdivision agreement, Cambridge will put in a well and water tower.
A residential development of much greater size also is slated for Huntley. Phoenix-based Del Webb Corp. is expected to approve in mid-August a 4,690-home Sun City for 1,700 acres west of Route 47. The retirement community would add some 8,000 new residents over the next decade.
Despite being 50 miles from downtown Chicago, Huntley is well located, pointed out Richard J. Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of Cambridge.
“Easily reached off the Northwest Tollway, it is convenient to the job markets in the northwest quadrant, including Schaumburg and O’Hare,” he said.
For Cambridge, which has built its reputation in Lake County, Southwind is its pioneering venture into McHenry County.
