Established as a national park: Feb. 26, 1929.

Area: 310,516 acres (485 square miles).

Visitors: 4,049,451 total visits in 1996.

Location: Northwestern Wyoming, immediately south of Yellowstone National Park.

Flora and fauna: Lodgepole pine and spruce forests, subalpine meadows, riverside greenery, sagebrush flats; moose, elk, pronghorn sheep, grizzly and black bears, small mammals, 150 bird species, fish and reptiles.

Entrance fees: $20 per vehicle, good for seven days. Passes also honored at Yellowstone National Park.
