Twice Upon a Time (Epic) (star) (star) (star)
Blessed with a supple and quietly emotional voice, Diffie is a wizard with radio-ready hooks and grooves, so much so that it’s possible to admire his restraint while also wishing he’d cut loose once in a while and reveal a few of the rough edges. This is solid mainstream fare, with delightful wordplay in “Zero” and moving ballads such as “Twice Upon a Time” compensating for the too cute “This is Your Brain.”
