Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Last summer’s dinosaur rock renaissance induced a lot of groans from critics but enough fan interest to give new hope to bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers, who (in their latest incarnations) played an impressive double bill last August at the Rosemont Horizon. The show this year was canceled at the Horizon but picked up on separate nights at the more intimate House of Blues. Expect Skynyrd to crank out Southern rock classics like their “Con Air”- revived “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Gimme Three Steps,” as well as some (yikes!) “new material” from their latest release, “Twenty,” when they play at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Doobies will be celebrating their 25th anniversary with a best of show when they do their thing at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Yes, the covers are steep ($40 and $37.50 respectively), but for all those goobers who are still yelling “Freebird,” it’s a rare opportunity not to look like the village idiot. House of Blues is at 329 N. Dearborn St., 312-527-3072.
