The 49-year-old former owner of a Mundelein auto-repair shop has been charged with 20 counts of insurance fraud for allegedly overbilling companies and paying off inspectors.

James Best allegedly defrauded the firms between 1993 and 1995 as owner of Roadside Auto Body, 849 E. U.S. Highway 45.
Lake County prosecutor Donald Morrison said Best directed employees to overbill insurance companies by inflating hours needed to do work and to bill for new parts that were never used.
Best, who lives in Grayslake, also is accused of paying off inspectors from the insurance companies. Morrison said two inspectors have admitted taking money to overlook Best’s crimes.
