Village President Lou Sherman has said the village and East View School will split the cost of installing a sidewalk on 35th Street, between Hopkins and Lewis Streets.
Sherman, speaking this week during the regular Village Board meeting, estimated the cost at $8,000 but later said it probably will be closer to $10,000 for the southeast side sidewalk.

The action occurred shortly after village officials awarded a bid for construction of a senior citizens community center and gymnasium nearby. Sherman predicted work on the sidewalk could begin within a month if mild, dry weather persists.
In May 1996, a 12-year-old Eastview School pupil and two other children were killed in a hit-and-run crash several miles southeast of the school. The three were walking at night on a sidewalk-less, dimly lit rural Crete Township road.
