William Ferris Chorale: With a title such as “The Glory That Was Rome,” one might have expected Friday night’s concert by the William Ferris Chorale to feature something grander than works by a half-dozen obscure composers active in the first half of this century. Written in worship of the Roman Catholic Church just before such music devolved into imitation folksong, these compositions were sometimes interesting but more often derivative and generally failed to compel. Organist Thomas Weisflog and an underused brass and percussion ensemble played nobly, filling the air at Chicago’s spacious Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
