player ready...Wrinkles, Congo, Freckles and the gang: Most parents already have had to fill out the forms to send the kids off for a week of summer camp. Glen Ellyn Park District says don’t forget to send Beanie Baby to camp, too. In the district’s new Beanie Baby Overnight Imagination Camp, children will bring their favorite Beanie to the recreation center in July, meet the camp leaders, then wave goodbye as Beanie boards the bus to Imagination Camp.
During their week apart, each child will receive a postcard saying how much fun Beanie Baby is having at camp. And upon the Beanie’s return, the child will receive a photo of his or her Beanie enjoying camp and a gift from Imagination Camp.
The Park District says there is room for only 100 of the critters on the bus, and only one Beanie Baby per child goes to camp. The cost? The mere price of yet another Beanie Baby: $5.
“We thought this would be a good way to introduce kids to going to an overnight camp, getting on a bus, all those good things,” says park district recreation supervisor Mary Defiglia.
