When you’re the defending state champions and lay claim to three other state titles in the 1990s, a 12-0-1 record is considered “struggling.”

St. Charles broke out of its “slump” by blanking No. 6 Palatine 4-0 and then edging the host school 1-0 for the championship of the Rockford Boylan tournament.

“We were struggling the last couple weeks,” said St. Charles coach Joe Moreau. “But just before this tournament we started playing a little better, and the last two days we really put it all together again.”

Led by senior forward Laurie Seidl, the top-ranked Saints won four straight games en route to the title. Seidl netted three goals and added an assist in the Palatine game, then scored the lone goal–from 25 yards out–in the late game. She finished with seven goals in the tournament and has 18 on the year. Goalie Laura Rowland stopped 11 shots on the day to post shutouts Nos. 10 and 11.

“I think this gets us in the direction we need to be going in,” Moreau added.

Naperville North 2, Fremd 1: Emily Clark scored both goals to lead the third-ranked Huskies (7-0-2) to the non-conference victory. Carla Wagner made 18 saves.

Rich East 2, Oak Lawn 0: Alaina Jasinevicius and Jen Keltner each scored for Rich East (7-3). Brenna McBurney (seven saves) posted her fourth shutout.

Barrington tournament: No. 9 Glenbard West (6-1-2) prevailed over third-ranked Naperville Central 1-0 on penalty kicks for the title. Sarah Rowland, Katie Kovatch and Heidi Spandikow scored in the shootout. Allison Glibkowski posted the shutout. Naperville is 7-2-1.

In the third-place game, Barrington (9-2-1) edged No. 2 Sandburg 2-1 with two goals by Kim Doetzel. Sandburg fell to 12-2-1.

Bolingbrook tournament: Freshman Lauren Covay scored two goals as Oswego (6-2-1) rolled past Lockport 5-1.

DeKalb tournament: Jamie Wisner scored three times as Antioch (7-2-1) topped Metamora 3-0 in the title game.

Evanston tournament: The host Wildkits (8-0-1) defeated Lake Forest 4-0 to capture the title for the first time in the nine-year history of the tournament. Julie Ward scored twice for Evanston. Goalie Abby Butkus (four saves) earned the shutout.

Libertyville tournament: No. 8 Wheaton-Warrenville South edged seventh-ranked Libertyville 2-0–despite being outshot 17-6 for the game and 11-1 in the first half–to capture the round-robin title. Kate Knorring scored for the Tigers (9-1) on just their third shot and assisted on Brooke Bell’s goal 8 minutes later. Goalie Lisa Fredrick kept Wheaton South in the game, thwarting a flurry by Libertyville (7-2) in the closing minutes of the first half.

Rosary tournament: Rebecca Mayer headed home a crossing pass from Amy Dunn to give the host Royals (6-4-1) a 1-0 victory over St. Edward in the title game.
