Smart diplomats: Lake County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Charles Isely hopes to make a sweet impression at the Warrington Connections ’97 Business Trade Show when it opens in England in mid-May.
Isely, chairman of the county’s Economic Development Commission’s International Business Development Committee, is leading a delegation of about half a dozen commission members who are interested in developing or extending their international clients and sources at the show in England.
But their booth will have a lot more than just brochures hyping Lake County and its companies. That is assuming that some of the 5,000 1-ounce bags of Jelly Belly jelly beans they will be distributing from North Chicago-based Goelitz Confectionery Co. don’t get eaten first.
Why Jelly Belly? “Marketing. It’s known internationally. It will make an impression. And we have Lake County, Illinois, U.S.A., with (the commission’s) e-mail and home page address imprinted on them,” Isely said.
That will give ’em something extra to chew on.
