Fancy show homes require a lot of extra work, so builders sometimes find themselves working up to the very last minute to finish their custom creations before the opening.

But this year’s Cavalcade of Homes, to be held June 14 to July 6 at Burnham Point in Napervlle, should be ready on time. The reason is that the site of the 1997 event was selected last summer, giving the builders plenty of time.

“There is no mad rush this year; most of the builders are way ahead of schedule,” said Joe DePaulo, developer of 50-acre, 128-lot Burnham Point, located on 95th Street just east of Illinois Highway 59, in a fast-developing area of south Naperville.

Currently 14 models are under construction. Ranging in price from about $300,000 to $450,000, they offer a diversity of design–Victorian, Williamsburg, Georgian, Cape Cod, contemporary and more.

Sponsored by the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association, the show usually draws more than 40,000 attendees.

DePaulo’s entry in the Cavalcade is a Queen Anne Victorian.

“It’s called the Centennial because it is patterned after an actual home built 100 years ago,” he said. The original cost only $5,000, but De Paulo’s show home will be in the $400,000 range.

Offering 3,600 square feet, it features two turrets and a front porch big enough for a swing. The “painted lady” will sport three exterior colors: burgundy and two contrasting shades of green.

Inside, it will be a blend of authentic Victorian touches, such as a claw-foot bathtub, and the latest in modern amenities.

DePaulo believes that after the show the custom models will sell because they are relatively near in price to the other homes in the subdivision.

“The Naperville address is another plus,” he added.
