“We’re trying to match last year’s record,” said co-captain Pat Martin, whose team took another step toward last year’s 32-2 mark by capturing the Barrington Invitational championship Saturday.
Martin’s 10 kills led the Huskies (9-0) to a 15-8, 15-8 victory over Wheaton-Warrenville South in the title match. Sean Vanderschot added eight kills, while Rob Ridenour contributed 22 assists and served three aces.
Naperville North also beat the Tigers 15-11, 15-11 in pool play and added victories over St. Viator and the Barrington junior varsity. Mason Phelps led the team with 31 kills for the tournament.
Sandburg d. Morton 15-11, 15-3: Kevin Ludden had seven kills and Kyle Owens added four kills and seven blocks to lead the third-ranked Eagles (3-1) to their third straight victory. Morton fell to 8-4.
Soccer
New Trier 5, Oak Park 0: Amy Hanna scored twice and Molly Metzger added a goal and two assists as the 10th-ranked Trevians (4-0) rolled to their fourth straight shutout.
Hinsdale South 1, Lockport 0: Jenny Derstine’s first-half goal sparked the Hornets (1-1) to their first victory.
Farragut 2, Kennedy 1: Mila Quiroga headed home a free kick with 5 minutes left to give Farragut the Public Red South victory. Natalie Carranza had 18 saves for the Admirals (4-1, 4-1).
Lane Tech 3, Taft 0: Cindy Meza, Diana Roman and Kristen Nelson each scored for Lane (2-3-3, 2-0-2) in the Public Red North.
Queen of Peace 9, Reavis 0: Missy Moran scored four goals for Queen of Peace (3-1) in the non-conference rout.
Regina 4, Niles West 2: Janie Gillard’s two goals and Caroline Yohana’s goal and assist paced the Panthers (2-1) in non-conference action.
Badminton
Prospect Invitational: Downers Grove South won the title with 38 points to Glenbrook South’s 34. The Mustangs got first-place finishes in the round-robin event from Jane Suh and Larisa Rumiu at No. 1 doubles and Alisa Abraham and Ohiny Nannar at fourth doubles. Both teams were 7-0.
Glenbrook South had champions in all three singles divisions. The Titans’ Anuja Tomakkar (No. 1), Anna Lotivio (No. 2) and Jee Yoon Shim (No. 3) finished the day undefeated.
Hersey’s Selma Kurtagic, fourth at last year’s state meet, did not compete because she was taking a college entrance exam.
Tennis
Evanston Invitational: Led by Ryan Sanders, who disposed of Loyola’s Chris Moy 6-0, 6-1 in less than 30 minutes at No. 1 singles, Lake Forest won the title with 24 points.
The Scouts’ Todd Stecko, a freshman, defeated Shepard’s Aaron Rusnak 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
University High (17 points) edged Loyola (16) for second place.
