A skateboard park that backers hoped would open by May 1 will be put on hold until neighbors of a YMCA, the proposed site for the park, can work out a compromise on its hours of operation and possible noise limitations, officials said.

Don Quinlan, program director for Lattof YMCA, 300 E. Northwest Hwy., said teenage volunteers were already building wooden ramps and jumps they had designed for the skateboard park, which would occupy a portion of the YMCA’s parking lot. About 75 to 100 people, primarily teenagers, were expected to use the park daily, Quinlan said.

No date for the meeting was set Wednesday, but officials said it would likely be scheduled early in May.
