Bond was set Tuesday for the three Schaumburg men charged with the attempted robbery of a Brink’s armored vehicle at the Grand Victoria Casino over the weekend.
Bond for John F. Below, the man authorities believe masterminded the robbery, was set at $850,000. Below, a former police officer in the Roselle and Chicago Housing Authority Police Departments, was being held in Elgin’s municipal jail.
Below, 51, also had been a security officer aboard the riverboat in 1996.
Bond for Below’s stepson, Daniel Weik, 18, was set at $600,000. He did not make a court appearance. He is recovering at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge from a gunshot wound in the mouth.
The third man, Paul Truszkowski, a Polish national, was being held on $600,000 bond. His passport also was taken away, officials said.
The three face charges of attempted robbery, armed violence, possession of a stolen vehicle and arson in the plot to rob the Brink’s truck.
The men were scheduled for an April 7 preliminary hearing before Kane County Circuit Court Judge John L. Petersen in St. Charles.
