The Public Works Committee voted 4-3 Monday night to reverse itself and take a stand in favor of installing stop signs on Kensington Lane at Georgetown Lane, a “T” intersection in front of a public school.
Currently, the intersection has a stop sign only where Georgetown meets Kensington.
A one-way entrance to Muir Elementary School is directly across from the point where Georgetown Lane ends at Kensington Lane, city officials said.

Though a school crossing guard is present during some of the busiest traffic times, some residents said Monday night they worried about safety when the crossing guard is not present.
“We have a lot of careless drivers, and we’re going to have some kids killed there,” said resident Marc Kovitz. “I’ve seen some really close encounters.”
