Objections to a proposed casino and complaints about a lack of information about it continued to surface at the Romeoville Village board meeting Wednesday night.

Resident Lois Anderson-Eolwin told the board that the community needed more communication from officials about plans for the casino.

“You’ve known about it and been working on it and didn’t inform us,” she said. “Please keep us informed. It’s your job.”

Similar concerns were reflected in a complaint filed with the Will County state’s attorney’s office last week alleging that Romeoville officials had violated the Illinois Open Meetings Act in scheduling an agenda item dealing with the proposed Native American casino.

Resident Richard Strom said the complaint concerns a Village Board meeting held in December when the board added to the agenda an agreement with a company seeking to build the casino at Weber and Normantown Roads.

Casino opponents say the proposal from Investments International was added to the board’s Dec. 18 agenda the day before the meeting, rather than the required 48 hours in advance.

Under the agreement approved by the board in December, the village will get 7 percent of the profits if the company can locate a Native American tribe that is willing to operate a casino and meets federal qualifications. State permission for a land-based casino also is required.
