The New Lenox Township Board voted Thursday night to establish a Family Services Commission.
The board also named five commissioners: Nancy Bracey; Rev. Dave Hedlin; Bob Hoaglund; Kelly Pyles; and Alice Wirt.
Township trustee Mike Hickey said, “Our first objective is to do a needs assessment. This is a proactive approach.”

The first order of business was recruiting an advisory board drawn from school, village, park and police officials. Between $10,000 and $15,000 was allocated to hire a part-time employee when the new fiscal year begins.
Early discussions about targeting youth and senior citizens services were broadened to a family focus. Officials said the commission won’t duplicate the New Lenox Park District’s recreational function, but serve in an advisory and referral capacity.
