The Hoffman Estates Village Board Monday night approved a three-year contract that gives about 50 village employees who belong to Teamsters Union Local No. 714 annual 4 percent salary increases retroactive to May 1, 1996. The local represents full-time clerical workers, inspectors, technicians, and police and fire dispatchers. The union members ratified the contract Feb. 3.

The contract provides overtime pay to unionized employees who work outside their regular hours on weekends or after 7 on weeknights.

Other provisions include changes in sick leave and contract recognition of funeral leave. It also allows for a severance package for the village’s police and fire dispatchers who are employed by the village when the village becomes a member of Northwest Central Dispatch System later this year.

Hoffman Estates officials say it is cheaper to join the regional system than to replace aging equipment.
