These instrumental virtuosos make soaring music with dark, luscious undertones. With heavy doses of Bulgarian, African, Scottish and Irish, they concoct a sound that is both traditional and emotionally immediate. The arrangements are sharp and inventive, and Roger Wilson, with his angelic voice, actually seems to be singing to the gods. In the midst of the Irish music revival, The House Band reminds that innovation and originality are still coming from the motherland.
