You might have thought all the macho in the country was going to be channeled in to New Orleans this weekend. But you’d be wrong.
Because this isn’t just Super Bowl weekend, it’s also kickoff time for the annual Chicagoland Fishing, Hunting, Travel & Outdoors show at the Rosemont Convention Center.
Whether you’re looking to buy a new boat, improve your fly fishing, upgrade your cross- bow or just brush up on the latest techniques in taxidermy, this is the show for you.In addition to 2,000 manufacturers booths, the show will feature several indoor ponds where you can snag trout, bass and big prizes depending on the tag your fish wears. Fleet-footed visitors can try their luck with Capt. Greg “Sharkie” Dubrule (who once caught a 3,000 pound shark), who will offer prizes to those who outrun him before he reels them in.
While most attendees are still men, women have shown a larger presence each year. Heck, Girl Scouts in uniform (as well as Boy Scouts, senior citizens and veterans) even get free admission.
The show runs Friday through Feb. 2 at 9301 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Rosemont; admission: free to $7. Phone: 800-323-5155.
