Results from a special census conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the population in the village of Palatine is 57,066, a 38 percent increase since 1990, according to the village.
Palatine sought the special census, conducted between Sept. 29 and Oct. 25, to determine whether the population exceeded 50,000. A population greater than that enables the suburb to get additional state tax revenue. It also makes the village eligible for a $300,000 federal block grant, which could be used for neighborhood enhancements.
