The threat of an increase in commuter parking rates has been laid to rest for now.
Currently commuters pay $50 for quarterly parking permits, $20 for monthly parking permits or $1 a day for a daily permit. Although the city considered raising those rates for non-residents as a way to make more money, officials decided this week against the hike because “it could cause a bit of a problem,” said city Finance Director Marilyn Gaston.
Under an agreement with Metra, a rate hike geared toward non-residents would be seen as discriminatory, Gaston said.
