The board of Valley View Community School District 365-U has approved a three-year tax-relief plan for the John H. Harland Corp.
The 50 percent tax-abatement plan would amount to about $102,000 in tax relief for the Atlanta-based manufacturing company, which is proposing to build a $5.6 million manufacturing center on 7.5 acres in the Corporate Crossings Business Park in Bolingbrook.
Although the company has yet to formalize the site selection or sign the 15-year lease, Harland officials assured board members that if they chose the Bolingbrook site, they would be prepared to set down roots for a while. With that assurance, the board unanimously approved the tax break.
Vicki Weyland, a representative for Harland, said the Bolingbrook site is just one the company is researching. Others include properties in Indiana.
Weyland said the company would close its Burr Ridge center and move its 133 workers. She said the company also is proposing to hire 150 workers. Nationwide, the company will consolidate 40 plants into seven major manufacturing centers, Weyland said.
