The Oak Forest City Council refused to make its $8,100 payment to Sexton Disposal Services of Chicago Heights, arguing that the garbage hauler owes money to the city.
On a 5-2 vote at Tuesday’s council meeting, aldermen demanded that a Sexton representative appear at their Nov. 12 meeting to outline the company’s services and charges and to explain why garbage service has been refused or billed differently.

Tom Tomaszewski, a Sexton manager, said there has been “some misconception that we did not pick up garbage from our regular customers” for two days in August. What was left behind, he said, was garbage that lacked or failed to have an adequate number of required stickers or garbage from homes at which bills were at least 90 days’ past due.
